This a great LP.I normally agree with [...] jazz editors but give it 4 stars not 5 (or four and half as they did). But still it is a perfect ,match from two players who have such individual character while being "in the pocket" players. Not like I agonized over it but this could have been an easy 5 star rated LP given it's beauty but for both players, especially Coleman, there are better examples in his cannon.Tete I like in the trio setting actually any.He never became the household name he deserved to be.Coleman had a talent for getting great piano sidemen like Tete or Hilton Ruiz,Cedar Walton etc.
Review by Steven Loewy
A pairing of tenor saxophonist George Coleman and pianist Tete Montoliu might at first seem odd, but this is a remarkably coherent album in nearly every respect. Coleman and Montoliu are each at the top of their form (coming straight from a European tour), the saxophonist blowing strings of notes like soap bubbles from a pipe and Montoliu singing his Tatum-esque lines. This one should silence anyone doubting Adams' top of the line abilities. His tone is distinct and emotional, the saxophonist being one of the last of a generation of individualists. The unsung duo sings through their instruments, interacts, and creates some wonderfully colorful fare. Four of the six tunes were penned by Coleman or Montoliu and reflect a splendid sophistication. The rendition of Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Lady goes right to the heart of the tune, while Antonio Carlos Jobim's Meditation is vigorously original. A fine introduction to the work of both Coleman and Montoliu.

Cojonudo !
